The opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Underwriter – Fleet (Haulage) to join our dynamic Underwriting team. This role can be based in one of our offices in Hull, Leeds, Birmingham or Glasgow or carried out remotely, with occasional travel to an office (e.g. once a month/quarter).
You will play a key role in supporting the underwriting strategy for our Haulage Fleet insurance product, part of the innovative rrelentless portfolio, ensuring all underwriting activity is delivered to a high standard with strong controls in place.
Key responsibilities
As an Underwriter, you’ll support the delivery, servicing and ongoing development of our Haulage Fleet product, contributing to growth ambitions while maintaining excellent service standards.
Working closely with the Lead Haulage Fleet Underwriter, your responsibilities will include:
Underwriting new and existing business profitably, accurately and consistently, in line with defined practices.
Building and maintaining strong trading relationships with brokers and intermediaries.
Developing a strong market presence as a trusted underwriting partner.
Generating and maintaining a healthy pipeline of new business opportunities.
Supporting broker meetings, presentations and tenders to secure new opportunities.
Promoting the Haulage Fleet product to maximise commercial growth.
Ensuring effective underwriting controls are adhered to and continuously improved.
Supporting the monitoring and delivery of product performance and metrics.
Contributing to budget and growth plans while delivering excellent customer service.
Required skills and qualifications
We are looking for an experienced Underwriter with knowledge of Haulage Fleet insurance, ideally gained within underwriting, broking or a related insurance environment.
Essential skills include:
Strong commercial awareness with proven negotiation and influencing skills.
Experience building and maintaining broker and client relationships.
Strong numerical and analytical skills, with experience in pricing and account performance monitoring.
Good understanding of relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Effective risk assessment and risk management capabilities.
Desirable (but not essential):
CII qualification (Dip CII or working towards ACII).
